5 Ways to Enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner (Without any Guilt)

Life is often full of daily stressors such as dealing with a difficult boss, forgetting something at home and consequentially running late for a meeting, trying to reason with a sassy teenager, or having someone steal your parking spot at the grocery store.

When you're already feeling stretched thin trying to juggle a career, a family, multiple extracurricular commitments, not to mention trying to make time to take care of your relationships and your health - these relatively minor road bumps can set off major stress.

When frustrating things happen, it can be helpful to try to practice gratitude for all the things that are going right in your life, and taking a moment to reflect on the fact that this annoyance is just temporary, and is a blip on the radar compared to all the blessings you have around you.

We think every day is a great day to be grateful, but we love having an entire day dedicated to being thankful! 🙏

Turkey Day Pig-Outs, Pared Down
 

We want you to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal with your loved ones without feeling guilty (we're definitely doing the same over here! 🙋)

That said, you probably don't want to eat so much you feel sick... So here are some tips to maximize your Thanksgiving meal, so you can have your pumpkin pie and eat it too! 😋

 

  1. Eat your veggies first! 🥗 Try to get your fill of vegetables before diving into the into the heavy stuff such as mashed potatoes + gravy and desserts - you'll likely indulge in those calorie-heavy goodies less that way.

  2. Go for a walk around the block.  🏃 After enjoying a delicious (but carb-laden!) meal, go for a walk with a loved one to try to burn off some of those carbohydrates - your body wants to expend them as energy, so let it!

  3. Try to stick more closely to your nutrition goals the days before and after Thanksgiving. It's easy to say "Oh well, I already ruined my eating goals with this meal, so I may as well eat whatever I want for the rest of the weekend..." Try to avoid this temptation! It's totally fine to chow down for the Thanksgiving day feast, but you'll enjoy it much more knowing that you're not going to give up everything you've worked for leading up to it.

  4. Get down (on the ground... with the kiddos).  We know - the temptation to curl up on the couch to watch football and eat all day is REAL... But try to keep moving! Get down on the floor and play with your kiddos/cousins/nieces and nephews - you'll burn calories while bonding and having fun.

  5. Stay hydrated. 💧 A lot of the yummy Thanksgiving dishes can be full of salt, so be sure to counter-balance this by drinking lots of water. Also, sometimes thirst can disguise itself as hunger - so make sure you're not eating a second (or third!) just because you're actually thirsty!
