Hi there! My name is Gina Nguyen, the mind behind www.damngina.co Blog and co-owner of a local paint and sip studio located in Round Rock, TX. I come from a family of entrepreneurs and just started my entrepreneurial journey almost 3 years ago. I have been working from home for several years now and I wanted to share some of my tips & tricks to help you maintain your sanity during these crazy times. These tips have helped me stay on the path to reaching my goals and I know they will help you, too.
#1. Dedicated Workspace
Create a dedicated workspace outside of your bedroom and make sure it is clean and has a peaceful vibe. Make it a place where you want to “go to work” every day. Clear your workspace of any distractions and surround it with things you enjoy. I personally have journals and candles on my desk that give me all the #workvibes
#2. Self Care
Self care appears in so many different forms and it is not the same for everyone.
Whether you are a bath & wine type of gal, book reader, journaler, fitness enthusiast, crafter, gardener, or whatever you are, make sure you are setting aside time for yourself to do things you enjoy doing. Do at least 1 thing every day to make yourself smile and laugh.
Move your body for at least 30 minutes a day! You can walk, do yoga, lift weights, run, chase your kids around the backyard, whatever it is, just make sure you are moving your body and increasing your heart rate. Moving your body helps circulate oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and improves overall heart and lung health. Show up for your body every single day.
#4. Pick your big 3
Choose 3 items on your to-do list that needs to get done today, NO MATTER WHAT. If you don’t complete anything else, these 3 things will still move you forward and help you achieve those goals. Everything else on your list can wait besides these 3 items.
#5. Eat the Frog first
Do the thing that you don’t want to do FIRST so you can get it out of the way and clear your headspace. If you wait until the end of the day, you’ll have it in the back of your mind all day that you’re dreading that task. Get it over with at the beginning of the day so you can clear your mind for other important tasks that you actually enjoy.
#6. Create a Routine
Some have said that we are the sum of all of our habits. Do you have good habits?? Create a routine that you adhere to every day to give yourself a sense of purpose. If you don’t have a plan, you don’t have a purpose. Schedule your work time, personal care time, and break times. If you need to make a schedule for your kids, do that too.
#7. Brain Dump
Have you done a brain dump before?? A brain dump is where you take a piece of paper (very important that it is physically written, and not just on a computer) and you write down every single thought in your brain. After you’re done brain dumping, you’ll organize your thoughts and categorize them into lists of things that need to get done. Prioritize what you can and delegate what you can. This exercise has helped me a lot with decreasing anxiety and clearing my mind to create a plan.
#8. Give yourself Grace
This whole situation is so new to everyone and there is no right or wrong way to be quarantine-ing. Give yourself Grace and don’t compare yourself to other people. Comparison is the thief of joy. Do the best you can, as best you can, and most of all, BE HAPPY.
